Joining the Tour

19 Jul

After much planning, 7 months worth, it was time to join the Trafalgar Best of Italy Tour. David drove us Friday afternoon to the Il Contico Hotel. As we left the rural area of Sacrafano, I was struck by how busy the roads become but not to busy for this cyclists. They are climbing the hill to Sacrafano.

The hotel is near the Vatican and not far from the Vatican Museum. We passed the justice center. Every build has its own statues.

The hotel is on a small street, just off the main road. As parking is a problem in Rome we immediately started looking for a parking place. In Rome and most Italian cities, the people park anywhere they can. Then once the cars are parked you will often find scooters parked in the space between the cars.

David pulled into the portico of the hotel and to our surprise the hotel had a sign indicating a parking garage above the ground floor. After parking we walked down to the lobby and on our walk we were surprised to see the dome of St. Peter’s.

We met the Trafalgar representative in the lobby and were assigned a room. It was a good thing David was with us as he showed us the trick to placing the key in a holder on the wall to keep the lights and air conditioning running.

So it was on to explore the hotel.

We all decided a toast was in order so. We ordered drinks, Joanne white wine, David a manhattan and for me, my favorite beer Chimay!

The bartender / waiter brought. Us our drinks along with some snacks. Chips, a hard cheese, a soft cheese, some meat and some nuts.
