We left Roma early in the morning for Pompeii. Pompeii, as you know, was covered with ash and lava from Mount Vesuvius, 5 miles away.

Pompeii was founded in 80bc and destroyed in 79ad. It was rediscovered in 1,599.

The above is the gladiators training area. It was far to hot to do a gladiator work out, so I took a day off.

The local tour guide was excellent, perhaps the best on the tour. He took us through the narrow streets right to the bordello and showed us the porn on the walls!

Did I mention it was Africa hot?

The tour of Pompeii was over just in time for a late lunch then back on the bus for Sorrento .
