The Coming Events

4 Oct

So boys and girls, the Tri and Run season begins in earnest. I’ve been looking at the race schedule for the coming fallwinterspring, all one season in Florida.

First up is the Raise The Roof 15k Nov. 1. This is a fun face that I do as a training run. Kinda of a long fun run. The race benefits Habitat for Humanity (Jimmy Carter).

Of course every runner know that Thanksgiving means a turkey trot. Here there are so many from which to chose. I’ve always done the Gobble Gobble Four Miler. It benefits St. Mathew’s House and is always a fun time. Besides they have pumpkin pie at the finish.

Next is Everybody Runs Half Marathon Dec. 7. I’ve won my age group in this race for the past two year so I’m defending my title.

The first tri of the season is the Christmas Sprint Triathlon Dec. 21. This a lake swim rather than a Gulf of Mexico swim but should be a good race.

Jan. 11 is the HITS Series Triathlon Naples. They have several races for sprint to full ironman distance. While it is not an official Ironman it still does the distance. I’m thinking of doing either the half iron distance or the Olympic. I’m unsure as we go north for Christmas which means I miss a week on the bike and swim.

My favorite race and one of Runners World Top Ten Half Marathons is the Naples Half Marathon. Jan 18. The race course past some multi-million dollar homes and is quite scenic. The party after is great with beer! I’ve done this race for the past 11 years and is my favorite.

Another fun race is the Hooters Half Marathon March 1. This can be a tough race if the weather is bad as it has been in 2012 & 2013 when it was cold and windy. It crosses the Peace River Bridge twice. Of course there is beer and wings at the finish.

The next tri is the Escape Ft. Desoto April 17. This is the tri that I did way back in 2007, so how can I not do it? It is a sprint that is well run.

So that is the schedule.

What is your race schedule?  Do you have a favorite race?
