Saturday’s Training

Today’s training schedule called for a training ride with the Estero Flatlanders. The ride is an out and back, about 40 miles. If you are interested in riding with us, we start at 7 am every Saturday and Sunday from the Tropical Smoothie parking lot on Corkscrew Rd.

Tony and I met up at the end of my block and we rode over together. It was cold but just an easy ride to the meet up point. That was the end of the easy riding. We waited for a rider to get ready so we left the parking lot 10 minutes late.

The ride started off ok, 18 mph but shortly, 1 mile, the speed jumped to 21 mph. Five miles later we were doing 23 – 24 mph, so much for a warm up. Going down the parkway was 24 – 25 mph and I began to pray for a red light. As luck would, have it Tony flatted on a new tire.


After the rest, I mean changing the tube, I got dropped at 26 mph 4 miles later. So I rode along to a point were I knew I could turn around and meet the group coming back, which I did. I jumped on a wheel and hung on while my heart felt like it was coming out of my chest.

Finally, after 10 miles of this I got dropped and rode the rest of the ride by myself, without heart problems. I finished the ride with 35 miles.
