Saturday was a busy day.  It started with a training ride with the Flatlanders. As you know it was a brutal ride in which I got dropped several times.  You can read about it here Saturday Training ride.

After a quick shower it was off to the local Saturday Farmers Market.

My friend Max brings produce from his father’s farm, so I know it’s local and fresh.  His father uses organic farming techniques but cannot get certified due to the farmers on either side of him not practicing organic farming.

After washing the fruit and veggies they got homes, some in the frig and others on the counter, especially the tomatoes.  Never put tomatoes in the frig.

Then our friends from Connecticut came and we all went to Costco. You gotta love Costco if for nothing other than the samples.  We grazed and bought a few things especially milk, eggs and coffee. Then it was time for our Costco hotdog lunch, hey I’m a cheap date.

Once home and the Costco haul put away, we got ready for the Progressive Dinner.  Each year our block does a progressive dinner. You are assigned a home for appetizers, then go  another home for the main course with 6 other couples and finally on to the last home for desert.  J and I were assigned to bring and appetizer.  We made a wonderful Hot Rueben Dip served on mini pumpernickel bread.  Alas I forgot to take a picture.

Sunday we took our friends on the boat shuttle.  Our community has a shuttle boat that goes down the Estero River across the Estero Bay to Lover’s Key State Park. It’s a two hour round trip or you can stay on the beach and come back later which Barbara and Dick did.   Lover’s Key is one of America’s top ten beaches.  The boat goes to the remote section away from the hustle and bustle of the key.

House Boat

On the way back the Captain stopped so we could watch a dolphin playing. The pictures didn’t turn out!  Then we saw the above “houseboat”.  It looked homemade and like they were living on her.

The rest of Sunday was spent reading and resting.  All in all a good weekend.

How was your weekend?
