How to Flush an Italian Toliet

13 Jun

Once again, like our trip to France, toilet flushing became a topic of discussion.  How do you flush? So in the interest of a PSA, let me share what Joanne and I learned in our brief visit to Italy.

First in our favorite resturant, we found the above gender neutral bathroom.  The men and women share the sink and mirror area with two stalls for the actual business at hand.

The above sign and toilet was at a small pizza resturant near the crypt we visited. Notice the sign, this time in English as well as Italian, what can and cannot go in the toilet.  This was also a gender neutral bathroom.  One stall fits all.  Notice ladies no seat, no frills, just push the button on the wall when done.

Some toilets have several flush buttons, as above.  White for small chrome  for large. Or maybe it’s the other way around, standing chrome, sitting white. When all else fails, push both.

Some street convenient toilets have no flush at all!

But most toilets in Italy are like the above.  Big and little flushers.  I’m never sure which side to push or just push both ot the small one. Whatever, it doesn’t matter because you have to push twice anyway.

Notice the bidet on the left, great to wash your feet after a long day of sightseeing!
